                   Dantewada is a tribal District, more than 50% of the population is tribal , whereas total literacy rate is only 33.21% and hence talking about legal literacy is meaningless. Due to lack of awareness in this area the role of District legal Service Authority is very important.

                          District Legal Service Authority Dantewada was established in 2005 under the Legal Service Authority Act 1987.The motto of District Legal Service Authority Dantewada is “Access to justice for all”. The District Legal Service Authority Dantewada is to protect the rights of under privileged ,poor, tribal population including womens and children and increasing the level of legal awareness so that no one has deprived of justice due to lack of funds and knowledge.

                          Article 39 A of the Constitution of India, provides for equal justice and free legal aids and says that States shall secure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice on a basis of equal opportunity , and shall in particular , provides free legal aid by suitable legislation or schemes or in any other way. Article 14 also make it obligatory for the state to ensure equality before law and a legal system which promotes justice on a basis of equal opportunity to all.

                          Legal aid strives to ensure that constitutional pledge is fulfilled in its letter and spirit and equal justice is made available to the poor down trodden and weaker section of the Society . Legal aid has a close relationship to the welfare State, and the provision of legal act by a state is influenced by attitudes towards welfare. Legal aid is a welfare provision by the State to the people who could otherwise not afford council for the legal system. Legal aid also helps to ensure that welfare provision are enforced by providing people entitled to welfare provisions, such as social housing with access to legal advice.
